Pick up a ‘typical’ general English coursebook these days, and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what you’re going to get, even before you open it. Global moves beyond this to provide a sophisticated, cultured experience for its users – both in content and feel. Our learners are adults and we treat them that way.
Critical thinking skills are promoted throughout Global, both in the choice of topics and in the way the material is exploited. Learners are asked to engage with the material at much more than just a superficial ‘language’ level.
Global has a strong emphasis on literary sources, and features a range of well-known classic and contemporary authors. These include Zadie Smith, Nick Hornby, JRR Tolkien, Margaret Atwood, George Orwell and Charles Dickens, amongst many others.
Global is a six level course that takes students from Beginner through to Advanced level.
Available now: Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced.
Global English with David Crystal
Professor David Crystal is arguably the world’s foremost expert on the English language, in particular the development and use of global English. We’re thrilled that he has written content specially for the Global Coursebooks – a first in ELT coursebook publishing. His ‘Global English’ material focuses on many different aspects of English, and features at all levels from Elementary upwards.
English nowadays is just as often used for communication between non-native speakers as it is between native speakers, and this is recognised throughout Global. The ‘Global Voices’ sections give students the opportunity to listen to a wide range of native and non-native speakers of English. These are all authentic and unscripted recordings, and expose students to real English as it is being used around the world today.
